Phoenix is Arizona's capital and largest city, at the center of a freeway network that includes Interstates 10 and 17 and Loops 101, 202 and 303. Valley Metro light rail runs through downtown and connects to Tempe and Mesa, and Sky Harbor International Airport is minutes from the city center. Because the city is so large, the housing is varied: downtown and midtown condos, historic districts with 1920s to 1950s bungalows and ranch homes, mid-century neighborhoods, large-lot properties, and new construction on the city's north, west and southwest edges.
HOAs are common in newer subdivisions and less common in older neighborhoods. The city's mountain preserves, including South Mountain, Camelback Mountain and the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, offer hiking close to home, and downtown has major sports, arts and dining venues. Public schools are run by many separate districts across the city, plus charter options; confirm boundaries for any address directly with the district.
